Amalfi reached its peak in power in about the 11th century, and from then rapidly began to decline. Over the next hundred years, it was sacked, destroyed and conquered by numerous groups of people. Amalfi eventually regained its independence and once again began to prosper.

Amalfi’s most famous attraction is without a doubt its beautiful coastline and its picturesque blue seas. Aside from that, Amalfi also has many other attractions that help make this town so unique. Amalfi’s Sicilian-Arab cathedral that was built in the 11th century is one of the most beautiful buildings in Southern Italy.
