Of all the countless cities that I visited in Italy, Cefalu is definitely one of my favorites. Cefalu is located on the island of Sicily about an hour outside of its biggest city, Palermo. Upon walking into this town, I was awe-struck by the natural beauty and sheer vibrance of the city.
I visited Cefalu more than three times during my stay in Sicily and it was not nearly enough time to drink in all that the city has to offer. Here are four of my favorite things to do while in Cefalu.
- Take a walk and observe the locals– Just walking through the streets of this historic town is like taking a lesson in life and in history. If possible, try to get away from the crowded streets and take a walk down the many smaller residential streets. This is the only way that you will discover one of the true gems of Cefalu, the people.
- Go sightseeing- Cefalu has so many beautiful sites to be seen. My favorite is the city’s only cathedral located in the heart of the city. The cathedral is not only historic and beautiful architecture, but it also has uniqueness about it that I did not sense in any of the other cathedrals in Italy.
- Going to the beach- Cefalu has one of the best public beaches that I visited in all of Sicily. It’s clean sand and clear water makes it a popular beach, so be prepared for crowds. If possible, try to avoid the hours between 1-4, as this is when most of the shops in Cefalu are closed so many people flock to the beach.
- Shopping- Cefalu, in my opinion, has some of the best shopping in all of Sicily. Not only are the stores great, but just the beautiful backdrop of the shopping make it that much more enjoyable.
