San Gimignano Italy is a charming town located in Tuscany about an hour away from Florence. When first stepping through the gates of this medieval town, you literally feel as if you are walking back in time. San Gimignano, founded around the 13th century, is a town in Italy that has miraculously retained its medieval look and small town feel. Many of the towers built hundreds of years ago by the founders of the town are still standing today!
Even though I only spent one day in San Gimignano, it does not take long to become completely captivated by the beauty and serine feeling of the town. There is great shopping, open-air markets and unique museums (San Gimignano is world-famous for its one-of-a-kind torture museum) to keep the tourists coming. But what I found most inspiring about this little city is the countless number of secluded medieval streets and the feeling that San Gimignano gives off. Try taking a walk by yourself away from the town center and see what treasures you can find. What I discovered while taking a walk off the beaten path in San Gimignano was the most breathtaking view of the Tuscan countryside that cannot be found anywhere else.
For anyone visiting Tuscany, I suggest that you spend 2-3 days in San Gimignano. Not only is this a great town to step back and enjoy the simple pleasures of Italy, but San Gimignano also has a completely different feel to it once all the day tourists have left. The serine feeling of nighttime in San Gimignano cannot be paralleled by any other city. If you take the time to discover the wonder that is San Gimignano, you will not regret it.
