Venice’s rule over Verona was finally ended as a result of the Austro-Prussian War in 1866, when Verona officially joined the kingdom of Italy.

Verona produced the architects Giocondo and Sanmichele and the painters Pisanello and Paolo Veronese, who painted many of the buildings in both Verona and Venice.
